Generisch - a german equivalent of generic - sans serif typeface has gain its own place among designers and earn such popularity due to its “simple” design. Generisch is influenced by early grotesk typefaces from early 1900’s when sans was starting to get popular and used as a body type. This year we attended the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in Italy. In our days off, we went to Piazza Maggiore to see what the city had to offer and luckily for us we saw an incredible store sign saying CAMPORA. We took some pictures of the typed font and later back in the studio we discovered that it was Dynamo. Immediately our minds were blown away by its beauty and thus we decided to design a new font inspired by its sharp and geometric design adding new weights and OpenType features. In the process we realized that both Dynamo and one of our favorite fonts Avant Garde, share a similar structure, so we made a type mashup between these beauties, including the sharpness of Dynamo and the revolutionary ligatures of Avant Garde.

»COSMA« is an old greek word that stands for »beauty« and »order«, I thought it a very befitting name for my new font-family. My »Cosma« has that special high-contrast Renaissance beauty but is very orderly in appearance. »Cosma« is a classical beauty with modern touches that make it unique. You will love this font. It is a great everyday workhorse with seven weights from UltraLight to Bold and all the necessary weights in between. Great for body copy and headlines! With 964 Glyphs it is a truly European font designed for all Central European and Latin using countries. »Cosma« has a set of Cyrillic that is also good for Serbia, Macedonia and Ukraine. Sorry, no Greek! But it has oldstyle- and lining-, tabular- and tabular-oldstyle-figures, many alternative letters and ligatures. On top I designed two sets of alternative, decorated caps each in normal and oblique. »Cosma« comes in Normal, Italic and Oblique, sometimes you just don’t want to use Oblique instead of Italic that would be too playful for the occasion. »Cosma« doesn’t come cheap, but I start off with a reduction, so that is a good chance to get all 49 cuts for a phantastic price. I am shocked to my very core that the name “Tropical Punch” hasn’t been used for a font yet. What a delight, that my very first name choice is available, and I can grow my collection of fonts named after delicious food and drink!

Tropical Punch is a retro-tropical font with a ton of variety: I’ve included nearly 200 multi-letter ligatures with nesting letters, to add quirky and fun variety to all of your projects.  There are also a few alternate vowels, plus a few dingbats to add jazzy pizzazz; and 10 smaller catchwords like THE, AND, WITH, and more!

I’ve also made an outline version—Tropical Punch Outline—which surrounds the solid letters beautifully, so you have even more options!

Of course, both versions have my usual 300+ extended Latin characters for language support. And I’ve included a set of uppercase Greek letters as well!

And everything, as always, is fully PUA-encoded so all characters are easy to access. I’ve also included a PDF with all of the alternates, dingbats, ligatures, and catchwords—just copy one from the PDF and paste it into your design program of choice.

Genki Desu is one of those Japanese expressions that are used a lot and don’t really mean what you think they mean. You can use it as a greeting: O Genki Desu Ka? (お元気ですか - how are you), or to say you’re feeling fine (元気です - Genki Desu). The word Genki also means ‘energy’ or ‘vigor’. I am not an expert, in fact, there’s so much Japanese I can actually speak (shame on me), but Genki Desu is one of my favourites. Maybe just because it sounds so nice!

Genki Desu is a cartoon/kid’s font. It is happy, kawaii and full of Genki, so use it for any design that needs a bit of cute.

In the word of the great Yoda: ‘May the Genki be with you!’.
